Cardiff Devils release Phil Hill
14 Oct 2013 | Ollie Hampson
The 2013/14 EIHL season is less than two months old but the Cardiff Devils have already made 2 changes to their roster.
First the South Wales outfit released defenseman Adam Ross and in the wake of a disappointing 6 – 3 loss to the Sheffield Steelers the Devils have released long-time forward Phil Hill.
The 31 year old Welshman has spent all but one year of his pro career with his hometown club, spending the 2005/06 campaign with the Sheffield Steelers, and his 527 games for the Devils puts him 2nd in all-time games played.
On the Devils official website, head coach Gerad Adams stated
“It is a time for change now and this is a difficult decision for us as an organisation and as a hockey club. It is my responsibility to make these tough decisions for the good of the overall team and the business and I am confident that Phil will land on his feet. I would like to thank Phil for his tremendous service to us during his time as a Cardiff Devil and on behalf of the club we wish him the best going forward.”
Hill, like the entire Devils side has ha a tough start to the season but he still has been able to register 9 points in 12 games.
This move clearly shows the Devils intention of a turn around to their season but with the Belfast Giants coming to town on Thursday, even a full Devils roster would struggle against the Giants who have already picked up a few points over Cardiff including a dominant 7 – 2 victory in Cardiff.
No news yet on a replacement signing.
