It’s been a month of speculation over the future of Cardiff Devils head coach Gerad Adams but it looks like the solution has arrived.
Adams has been the player-coach of the Cardiff Devils from the 2006/07 season up until today, as the Devils announce that the defenceman has hung up his skates and will continue as full time head coach.
The former number 55 retires with 125 points for the Devils and 201 in an 11 year EIHL career for the Devils and two years with the Sheffield Steelers.
His 382 games for the club leave him fifth in all time games played for the Cardiff Devils.
The move is effective immediately and will see Adams on the bench for the Devils Thursday night meeting with the Belfast Giants.
Arguably the timing could be better with a meeting against the Giants just two days away and losing one defenceman and a forward in Phil Hill who was released yesterday, the Devils will likely struggle against the Giants who have caused all kinds of trouble for the Devils this year.
With two players down, new signings are expected with Devils managing director Brent Pope saying they are looking for a defenceman with a good offensive upside to bolster the now depleted blue line.
The move also squashes a rumour that was circulating yesterday that Devils bench coach Neil Francis had been relieved of his duties, with the former Devils player will remain with the squad in a different assistant coaching position.
