12 national titles, 20 World Championships and 2 Olympics: Romanian mourns one of the greatest hockey players
With the death of Zoltan "Duda" Czak, Romania lost a great hockey player and an athlete who made history of his sport. Zoltán Czak passed away Tuesday, November 12 at 81. Zoltán Czak was born on December 2, 1932 in Miercurea-Ciuc, began his career at 17 in the local team hockey IPEIL, with whom he won two national titles in 1949 and 1951. In 1951, as soldier, entered in the legendary CCA Bucharest (now Steaua), winning ten national championship titles. Czak has 158 caps for Romanian national team, playing in over twenty world championships, and in two Olympics in 1964 and 1968 when he retired. In 1968 he was appointed coach at Steaua. In 1953 he received the title of Master of Sport, and in 1972 received the title of Honored Master of Sports. In 1984 he returned to Miercurea-Ciuc, where the 1985-1986 season coached Sport Club, then moved to Tusnad.He returned to the bench of Sport Club in the 1998-1999 season, but after a month resigned due to health problems.
