Brandon Bochenski: Eurohockey Player of the Month for November
07 Dec 2013 | Derek O’Brien
Brandon Bochenski of the KHL's Barys Astana has been voted November's Player of the Month by Eurohockey readers. The American winger recorded 4 goals and 6 assists in nine games, and his fine all-around play all season is one of the reasons Barys leads their division.
Now in his fourth KHL season with Barys Astana, the
31-year-old native of Blaine, Minnesota has been a consistent point-a-game
scorer, leading the league with 27 goals in 2011-12. So far this season, he has
flourished on a line with Nigel Dawes and Dustin Boyd. The trio are often
joined by fellow North Americans Mike Lundin and Cam Barker to form a
formidable five-man power-play unit.
Originally drafted out of the USHL by the Ottawa Senators in
the 7th round, Bochenski then spent four years at the University of
North Dakota, before spending the next six seasons shuttling back and forth
between the NHL and AHL as part of five different organisations.
In addition to his offensive attributes, Bochenski is also responsible defensively and a strong physical presence along the boards. After his spectacular month of November, he is now fourth in
league scoring with 36 points in 35 games, and the Eurohockey Player-of-the-Month
award isn’t the only recognition he has received. Next month, he will be
playing in his second KHL All-Star Game.
