HC Vitkovice needed a win if they wanted to have a chance to play for first place in group Cattini.
In front of a sell out crowd HC Davos started their 2013 Spengler
Cup campaign against last year's semi-finalist HC Vitkovice Steel
with a blast as Davos scored two quick goals in the 3rd and 4th minute. The
first goal was scored by Beat Forster, assisted by Peter Guggisberg.
Goal two was scored by Dino Wieser who had no Vitkovice player standing in his way. The
rest of the first period Davos was busy controlling their two-goal
lead and had no problems doing so.
Period 2 started with a powerplay for HC Davos who installed their
formation quickly but could not capitalize on any of the chances.
But only moments after, Davos' Robin Grossmann scored on an awkward shot that jumped over goalie
Roman Malek. And only minutes later it was Gregory Hoffmann who
scored on a Davos powerplay and made it 4:0, making it hard for Vitkovice to turn around the
game. The second period ended with 2:0 goals for Davos.
In the last period it was Davos again to continue the scoring, making it
5:0 during a powerplay period. The shot came from the stick of
Ville Koistonen directly from the blue line. And finally, a minute later, HC Vitkovice was able
to shove the puck past Leonardo Genoni, Roman Szturc was the only scorer
this evening for his team. With this Vitkovice will play against the second placed Team of Group
Torriani which could be HC Genève Servette or CSKA Moscow. HC Davos will
play Team Canada for first place in the Group Cattini. The winner will play the Rochester Americans who lost their second game against CSKA 4:3.
