Kloten wins must-win game against Biel
21 Jan 2014 | Andreas Reiner
After desatrous defeat on the weekend, Kloten tried to get back on winning road.
Saturday didn't exactly go the way the Flyers had hoped. After 10
minutes they were already 3 goals behind and it only got worse as SC
Bern
steamrolled Kloten with 6:0.
Kloten looked to get a good start and were awarded a minor penalty
within the first minute of the game. It took Eric Blum only seconds to
score on
Lukas Meili in the Biel Goal. He was assisted by Michael Liniger and Captain Victor Stancescu.
In the 10th minute of the first period Biel had a first chance at
playing with a one-man advantage when Michael Liniger was sent to the
bench for holding but Michael Flückiger kept his goal clean. With 3 minutes left Biel got on the scoreboard. A
short pass from Chris Bourque and Oliver Kamber to Marc Wieser equalised
the game. Kloten then got another chance on a powerplay as canadian
Ryan MacMurchy was sent to the bench and another minute later it was
Christ Bourque who was also was also sent to the cooler. With a 5 on 3
it was an easy play for Eric Blum to score his second goal of the night
and Michael Liniger also got his second assist. With that goal the first
period ended.
The second period was almost halfway through when a situation in the
crease of Lukas Meili went under video review through the head referee
duo Andreas Koch/Daniel Stricker but they couldn't confirm a goal so the
standing after 30 minutes still was 2:1. In the 32nd minute Marc Wieser
got himself in a good position but goalie Flückiger showed some great
reflexes and prevented Kloten from receiving the equalising goal. With 4
minutes left Flyers winger Stancescu was benched for Interference and
only seconds later Jim Vandermeer followed him with a minor penalty for
cross-checking. Kloten survived the 5 on 3 with brilliant posititioning
and didn't let Biel shot on the goal once during the 2 man advantage.
With the start of the last period Klotens Philippe Schelling was sent to
the bench for hooking and Biel tried to initiate the powerplay when
Emanuel Peter from behind the goal passed the puck to Ryan MacMurchy to
even the score. In the 5th minute goalie Lukas Meili couldn't secure the
puck and top scorer Peter Mueller stood perfect and just pushed the
puck over the line to make it 3:2.
With 2 minutes left Biel was awarded yet another powerplay and goalie
Meili was replaced by another player but it was too late. Kloten was
able to keep the one goal lead and won the game 3:2. With this win
Kloten keeps their chances of finishing in the top four which would mean
home advantage for the play-offs. But it's still a long way to go.
