Swiss wins with a late goal
Eight seconds was the time to play in regular time.
There was a lot of curiosity around the Swiss national men's hockey at the Olympics in Sochi. After the silver medal last May at the World Championships in Stockholm, the Swiss step foot in Russia with the clear intention to do well and prove that the second place in the World Cup didn't come by accident. Swiss presented no top-lines but four lines with equal value. Two of four lines came from last May in Sweden(Niederrieter-Plüss-Moser and Bodemann-Cunti-Hollenstein).
The first five minutes of the game we have seen Latvia in attack, but the conclusions almost never have caused concern to the Swiss goalie Jonas Hiller. In the next few minutes, however the ascent would be for Switzerland with several dangerous conclusions thrown from the all parts. But the Latvian goalie Edgars Masalkis(unemployed by the way) stooped everything. In some of those moments was even suffocating but the end of first period would come with 0-0.
In the early of the second period Swiss came with the same motivation but one more time Masalkis keep Latvian in the game. By the middle of period the Latvian team would come toe to toe with the Swiss team but this time Jonas Hiller said present and the second period ended with no goals.
The third period would be without major occasions(except two from Romy and Brunner) and the two teams have focused mainly on the defensive part looking for overtime. When the overtime seemed to be a reality, Simon Moser assisted by Marc Streit delivered three important points to Swiss team. Despite Swiss struggled to score for 59 minutes, the team must be happy to take the victory. The next event is scheduled for Friday at 13.30(Swiss time), when the boys of Sean Simpson face Sweden, who tonight beat the Czech Republic 4-2.
