In both semi final series of the MOL League the non-Hungarian team won game 1 with the Hungarian teams needing a win in game 2 to still make it a fair battle in the best of five playoff series. The two Hungarian clubs, Miskolc and DAB did not disappoint.
“Tonight we're looking to make changes and come out of here with a split going home,” said Miskolc captainTyler Metcalfe before game two in Nové Zámky.
The first period went by fast as the only real stoppage of play was Martin Frolik’s goal at 9:41 into the game with Vladimir Kames and Lubomir Hurtaj getting the assists.
After a peaceful first period the second and third periods felt like playoff hockey. Eighteen seconds into the second Juraj Faith already picked up the first penalty for hooking. Jakub Rudik and Attila Rafaj decided to have a “talk” for which they both received two minutes. Not even a minute later Matt Boyle was sent to the showers early as he received 5+20, but 10 seconds later Kames was called for hooking and there went the Nové Zámky power play. Metcalfe and Pavel Kowalczyk had offsetting penalties and a Frolik 2+10 was the last of the party.
After a scoreless second period it only took twenty six seconds into the third for a Jordan Knox shot to get past Jan Chovan to make it 1-1. Tthree minutes later Ádám Hegyi set up Vladimir Dubek for the go ahead goal. Miskolc held onto the win with Nové Zámky pulling their keeper with just under two minutes left, in the end the Miskolc tied it up at 1-1.
After the game Nové Zámky forward Peter Polcik said“They were better team tonight and they skated better. We had couple chances, but we didn't score to make it 2-0 lead and that cost us game. Now we're focusing on game 3.”
Metcalfe had this to say“We are definitely pleased to be coming back home to play in our rink with a split. We are a strong team when we play stingy defensively. Our rink and fans have great energy and that will only help us keep the ball rolling in game 3.”
Dunaújváros did not want to be down 2-0 and going to Brasov in a must win situation on top of being the top seed in the playoffs.
The first period came and went without a goal being scored but Brasov did rack up three penalties.
In the second period Henrich Jabornik scored the first goal of the game for the home team. At the halfway point of the game Balázs Somogyi put the puck past Patrik Polc and into the cage to double the lead. However, Brasov came back, when Zsolt Molnár cut the lead to one. Later on the period Somogyi scored his second of the game to make it 3-1 and to get the lead back to two.
1:21 into the third a Roberto Gliga goal cut the DAB lead back to one goal again but the home team was able to hold onto the win.
“It was a hard game, both teams play same kind of hockey. The second period was bad for us but we had chances in the third to get back into,”said Brasov's Finnish defenseman Juha Hietamäki after the game.
