Metallurg Magnitogorsk needed another overtime to break Vladivostok, Sibir and Salavat take the lead in their series.
Metallurg Magnitogorsk - Admiral Vladivostok 4:3 OT (Metallurg won series 4-1)
Sergei Mozyakin finally ends the drought and after collecting 9 points on assists, adds a goal. And some goal it is - the game winner in overtime to edge Admiral as Metallurg proceed to the next round. The goal puts the end to a fantastic night Mozyakin had snapping altogether 4 points (1+3) to help his team win the game.
Jan Kovar stood a point shy of Mozyakin with an assist and 2 goals when he lit the lamp giving Metallurg the lead 3:2 at the beginning of the third period. Sergei Mozyakin was on the assist, as well as in the first period when Kovar doubled Danis Zaripov's opener.
Zaripov, who had opened the scoring at 5:57, collected 2 points - a goal and the assist. Kovar and Mozyakin were assisting at the opener.
Admiral had come back from 2:0 and 3:2, but apparently it wasn't enough. The only positive thing is their powerplay that's been working perfectly at 50%, all their goals were scored on powerplays through Igor Bortnikov, Alexei Ugarov and Justin Hodgman.
Ak Bars Kazan - Sibir Novosibirsk 0:1 (Sibir lead the series 3-2)
Oleg Gubin's picked up deflection in the slot gives Sibir the win and the lead in the series. Undecided defence in front of Garipov gets Gubin enough time to skate to the ricocheted puck after Sergei Shumakov's shot from the left got deflected.
Sibir started out strong when in 7th minute Emil Garipov had to save a one-on-one feed from the slot right in front of him as Jonas Enlund couldn't have deflected it in. Late in the period Dmitry Obukhov goes for the wrap around as Bars strike back, yet he couldn't beat fantastic Mikko Koskinen.
After having traded 17 goals in previous games, it comes as a surprise that Sibir come out victorious after having scored a single goal.
In the second Evgeny Medvedev hits the steel work early and Mikko Koskinen made some incredible saves in the powerplay that came right after the play. Three saves to keep the net intact while both teams were sterile on the powerplays - Ak Bars 0 for 4.
Emil Garipov also had to put an effort, especially in the third during the powerplay for Sibir, still they couldn't open the scoring despite a huge opportunity early when the puck was bouncing in the slot. Sibir went 0 for 3 on the powerplay.
Mikko Koskinen earns the shutout - a vital one collecting 29 saves that gives the edge to Sibir in the series and Ak Bars face their first-ever defeat in the quarterfinals.
Salavat Yulaev Ufa - Torpedo Nizhny Novgorod 4:2 (Salavat lead series 3-2)
The first home win of the series gives Salavat the lead as they turn the series completely and come from behind 2-0. Sibir had won the first two encounters in Ufa to force the 2-0 series lead and Salvat had come back in Nizhny Novgorod to tie things up.
Powerplays were the key today and they were working superb. 5 out of 6 goals were scored on the powerplays.
After Yegor Dubrovsky and Wojtek Wolski traded goals in the first period, Wolski scoring on a 5-on-3, for a moment it seemed the visitors' winning series might continue: Sakari Salminen gets Torpedo back in front only 16 seconds into the second frame. Nikita Schitov levels the things again midway through the game.
Yegor Dubrovsky snaps the game-winner at 47:00 again on the powerplay, to get his second of the night and third overall in the playoffs. Antti Pihlstrom seals the deal late, scoring the only even strentgh goal of the night.
Powerplays were extremely high tonight - Salavat standing at 60% (3 for 5) and Torpedo answering back with 40% (2 for 5). Andrei Vasilevsky led his team to the win with 27 saves on 29 shots - 93.1 saves percentage.
Metallurg are through and joing Barys Astana who had already booked the semi-finals spot after sweeping Avtomobilist 4-0. All the four remaining teams will meet again March 16 in possible elimination games.
