At the World Championship Division 1A in Goyang Korea, Austria tops the standings as the only unbeaten team after two days.
After an overtime win (3-2) over Ukraine yesterday, Austria continued today with a 4-1 win over Japan. Japan had surprised Slovenia the day before, beating them for the first time ever in a WC game. The game was tied 1-1 after two periods, but Thomas Hundertpfund, Mario Altmann and Brian Lebler secured the win with a goal each in the last period.
"The team was very disciplined. Japan has shown that they have a good team", says Austrian coach Manny Viveiros after the game.
Ukraine who today beat Hungary 3-0 is second in the close standings with four points, one less than Austria. Slovenia, Hungary and Japan all have three points. Only the host Korea is still stuck at no points after losses to Hungary (4-7) and Slovenia (0-4).
There are no games on Tuesday, but on Wednesday Slovenia plays Hungary, Ukraine faces Japan and the day ends with the game Austria-Korea.
