Recap of Day 5 at U18 in Finland
21 Apr 2014 | Andreas Reiner
Germany and Denmark will be playing in relegation round while all other Teams try to get into favourable positions on Tuesdays last preliminary round.
Overview Group A
While Canada leads the pack with 9 points ahead of Russia with 6, both
Teams will meet tomorrow. The Canadians can afford a loss with a margin
by 3 goals and still finish on top and face the 4th placed Squad in
Group B in the Quarterfinals. Russia won it's game 5:2 against the
Germans, pushing them to Relegation Round. Svechnikov (2 Goals/1 Assist)
and Nikolishin (1 Goal/2 Assists) each recorded a 3 point game. In the
second game of the day, Sweden had no trouble moving Slovakia out of its
path with a 6:2 victory. William Nylander recorded a 5 point game (3
Goals/2 Assists) and was named Best Player for Sweden. They will face
Germany tomorrow, with a win and a loss by Russia at the same time, they
might jump to second place.
Overview Group B
The Situation in this group is very much open, any Team could still grab
the first spot. Switzerland seemed to have more trouble than expected,
"only" beating the Danes 3:2. The game was open until the 58th minute
when Noah Rod scored the game winning goal. Kevin Fiala accounted for 3
points (1 Goal/2 Assists). Danish Goalie Thomas Lilie kept his Team
alive with 43 saves and was named Best Player for Denmark. Making any
predictions in this Group who will finish where is merely impossible,
also due to the fact that the Czechs won against the home Team in a
Shootout ending the game 4:3. In the last two games, Czechs will face
Switzerland and Finland will meet the USA. Remember, all 4 Teams are
within 2 points with Finland leading the pack, followed by Switzerland and the States, so anything is possible.
