It wasn't an easy game for Ovechkin's team. Very good game by German team.
Group B
Russia 3 Germany 0
It was a strong effort by Germany against Russia Sunday night. Even if the final result says 3-0 for Russia, the men's of Pat Cortina made their best game of this tournament. Russia wins the sixth game and secures the first place in group B. But most important in this moment is to know if Russian star Alexander Ovechkin is ok after colliding with German skater Daniel Piettas in open ice. Ovechkin was taken to hospital to know if his knee is ok for the rest of tournament.
Philipp Grubauer started for Germany after four games in the bench and Andrei Vasilevski started over Sergei Bobrovsky for Russia after 39 saves in the last game against the USA. After the first two periods you really couldn't tell witch team could win the game, because the game was open and both teams had opportunities to score but goalies stopped everything with 19 saves each.
In the third period the real Russia showed up to play and put Germany under pressure. After a penalty by Markus Kink by slashing, Vadim Sipachyov scores the first assisted Yegor Yakovlev with 43:58 in the scoreboard. The second goal came out by Sergei Shirokov assisted by Danis Zaripov with ten minutes to play. Russian star Viktor Tikhonov scored the third goal with the open cage.
Russia must wait to know who will be the fourth place in group A. Germany with this loss is eliminated from the World Championship.
