USA beats Germany

The youngsters Johnny Gaudreau and Leon Draisaitl was in focus when USA won 5-4 against Germany on the last day of the group stage of the World Championship.
American youngster Johnny Gaudreau, born 1993, scored a goal and added three helpers while Germany's two years younger Leon Draisaitl scored 1+2 in a game that meant little for the final standings. USA had already secured a quarter-final spot while the Germans knew that this would be their last game of the championship and they couldn't face relegation.
After a scoreless first period the teams scored three goals each in the second. USA took the lead three times and Germany replied every time. But they couldn't answer to Gaudreau's 4-3 goal early in the third period. Instead Justin Abdelkader scored 5-3 at 55:44. Tobias Rieder closed the gap with a goal two minutes before the end but that was it. USA won the game 5-4.
"We knew that this was going to be a tough match for us today. We’re looking forward to moving on from here", said American coach Peter Laviolette after the game. USA finishes second in Group B unless BElarus wins tonight's late game against Russia. Then USA will be third.
