President of Hockey Russia speaks about the future of KHL
Vladislav Tretiak, who was elected as President of Russian Hockey Federation, told about his plans concerning KHL to Russian agency ITAR-TASS.
First of all, he mentioned that Russian Hockey Federation prolonged delegation of rights to hold Russian ice hockey championship to KHL (KHL is officially called Open Russian Ice Hockey Championship). He said: "Federation delegates rights to KHL for the period of three years. We have agreed on non-Russian players limit, there will be five foreign players per team. Still we have to decide what to do with those who have two passports. In Federation opinion, foreign player is one who can't play for the Russian national team."
He also mentioned that his actions are approved by Putin: "Vladimir Putin, President of Russian Federation, said that we cant loosen this limit, and we are not going to. On the contrary, we plan to cut it to four players during next two years."
Current limit is five non-Russian players for Russian clubs in KHL. Non-Russian KHL clubs must have minimum of 7 players (5 players in previous seasons) from the country of club's origin.
