Title race heats up in the EIHL
It's about halfway in the British Elite Ice Hockey League and the race for the league title is really heating up. At the time of writing the number one spot is currently occupied by Braehead who, after 33 games, have 47 points. Belfast, Cardiff and Nottingham all find themselves with 41 points and Sheffield, who occupy the fifth position in the league, have 40 points.
Sunday's games could prove crucial by the end
of the season. Cardiff travel to Nottingham as both teams look to close the gap
on the Scottish leaders. Sheffield face off against Coventry and even though
the Coventry Blaze are struggling down at the foot of the table they are no
walk over. Saturday night the Blaze defeated the Cardiff Devils who have been
on fine form recently.
Braehead will play host the Hull, who like
Coventry are struggling in the standings, but that certainly doesn't do the
Yorkshire club justice. Saturday evening Hull travelled to Northern Ireland and
saw off the reigning champions with a 4-2 victory. Belfast will be looking to
bounce back from that defeat with a win when they play Dundee on Sunday
afternoon.
Saturday's results:
Belfast 2-4 Hull
Braehead 5-1 Fife
Cardiff 4-5 Coventry
Edingburgh 1-2 (PS) Dundee
Sheffield 1-4 Nottingham
