Weekend wrap-up NLA East
11 Jan 2015 | Andreas Reiner
Davos took revenge, Lugano keeps on winning and the Flyers are on crash course with the Play-outs.
HC Lugano - EV Zug 3:1
After winning the derby against Ambri-Piotta the previous day, HC Lugano
looked to keep the 3 points at home against one of the direct rivals
Zug. But it was the guest who opened the score when Fabian Sutter netted
the puck in the 2nd minute. Lugano's Diego Kostner delivered the
equalizer with a minute left in the opening period. At mid-game, Fredrik
Petterson and Marco Maurer fed Linus Klasen with a pass to get the
Bianconeri ahead on the scoreboard. Pettersson accounted for his second
assist in that game when he passed the puck to Ilari Filppula and the
final score of 3-1.
HC Davos - Rapperswil-Jona Lakers 3-2 OT
Davos wanted revenge after Friday's loss in Rapperswil but it was Stefan
Hürlimann with a double header in the 37th and 39th minute who put his
team ahead 2-0 after two periods. Davos had a quick answer though, in
the 42nd minute Sven Ryser, assisted by Marc Aeschlimann scored the
first goal for Davos. It didn't look too bad for Rapperswil who have
been dead last in the NLA since months to bring home those points but
Gregory Sciaroni in the 51st minute burried the puck for the equalizer.
60 minutes were played and so an overtime would decide. Beat Forster
with his second assist of the evening passed the puck to Mauro Jörg in
the 62nd minute who got the puck past Ivars Punnenovs. With this both
teams split the points out of both games equally.
Kloten Flyers - ZSC Lions 2:4
The 191th derby between both teams had a rather slow start. For the
Lions, newly signed Henrik Tallinder was placed in the second line next
to Matthias Seger who celebrated his 1'000th game in the NLA. Only
Martin Steinegger (1'025), Gil Montandon (1'070) and Ronnie Rüeger
(1'081) have more games in the NLA. On the other side, Brady Murray from
Lugano and Paul Ranger from Servette are on temporary contracts but
could be considered for further games depending how they play.
The when on back and forth when in the 14th minute Patrick von Gunten
took a slapshot from the blue line and the puck somehow found a way past
young goalie talent Luca Boltshauser who had previously played 3
seasons for the U20 team of Västeras IK in Sweden. No further goals were
scored in the starting period which didn't see a single minor or major
penalty which normally is part of the "Zürcher" Derby.
In the second period, the Flyers had a slight advantage, going for the
puck in their own zone and creating chances which paid off in the 29th
minute when forward Peter Guggisberg put his team ahead 2:0 while being
assisted by Tommi Santala. Again, the 2nd period ended without a
penalty.
The third period started slow again but in the Flyers seemed to handle
the game pretty well. Then, in the 43rd minute Kloten was awarded a
penalty but instead of scoring game securing 3rd goal, Dan Fritsche
scored a shorthanded goal whereby he was kindly assisted by the Flyers
goalie Jonas Müller who had left his crease. As if that wasn't enough,
just 30 seconds later the Lions scored the game-tying goal by Morris
Trachsler. And to make things worse, Roman Wick, one of the more
disliked players in Kloten, went on a single handed attack and scored
the 3rd goal fivehole. This was typical for a Kloten team that had
played well and on the same level as their opponent but would loose it
in the last 20 minutes. With less than 2 minutes to play Patrick
Bärtschi scored the 4th goal on the powerplay. Both teams meet in 2 days
in Zurich for the 4th derby of the season.
