Lions win 11th derby in a row

While the Lions are climbing up the stands, the situation for the Kloten Flyers is getting worse with every game.
After Sundays defeat on home ice, the Flyers were anxious to take the first derby win of the season.
But it was the home team who got on the scoreboard first when Reto
Schäppi gave a pass from behind the goal and Mike Künzle burried the
puck on the near goal post in the 8th minute. Unfortunately that was it
for the first period, a powerplay possibility for the Flyers wasn't
fruitful with 3 minutes left in the period.
The start of the second period was way more furious compared to the
first. First Philippe Schelling got the Flyers on the scoreboard with
less than a minute played but Sven Senteler of the Lions cared enough to
apply the old 1 goal lead just over a minute after Schellings goal. He
was fed by a nice pass from Dan Fritsche. The Flyers made their own
lives difficult when two players were benched shortly after each other
but Denis Hollenstein who just came of the bench was able to escape with
a break away but young Luca Boltshauser blocked the shot with his leg
pad. With 2 minutes left Blindenbacher saw Bärtschi standing unattended
at the far post, passed the puck and easily scored the 3rd goal for the
Lions.
Over 17 minutes were played in the final period but it didn't seem that
the Flyers wanted to change anything about their current situation. The
Lions controlled the game with little effort while Kloten had trouble to
even settle down in the offensive zone. Coach Sean Simpson decided to
pull goalie Müller and with 56 seconds left, Peter Guggisberg scored the
second goal with a spin-around. But the late effort wasn't enough as
the Flyers lost the 11th derby in a row.
