DEG and Iserlohn force game 7
22 Mar 2015 | Markus Nisius
Both Düsseldorf and Iserlohn could get their 3rd win of the series and keep the home game streak in both matchups alive. They have to break it though on tuesday to advance to the semifinals.
Düsseldorfer
EG vs Hamburg Freezers 4-3, series 3-3
In a highly
emotional game for most of its parts Düsseldorf dominated the first period and Shawn
Belle opened the scoring with 8 minutes off the clock since Kurt Davis saw him
free in the slot, a feed Belle could not miss. Hamburg got the better start to
the second period with a blast from Samuel Klassen, that found its way past
Beskorowany, but Düsseldorf found some quick answers. Daniel Fischbuch and
Bernhard Ebner could both finish breakaways by putting in the rebounds of Ken
Andre Olimb and Anders Martinsen.
In the
aftermath of these goals the game went to snooze a bit and was only awakened in
the third when Adam Mitchell and Druval Westcott could even the game out of
nothing within a minute only. At least for Westcott’s goal Düsseldorf’s goalkeeper
Beskorowany must have been still in sleep mode as the shot from far out went
straight through his pads without any deflection.
But again
it didn’t take Düsseldorf too long to come up with an answer. 25 seconds later
Alexander Preibisch converted another rebound to make it 4-3 and force a
seventh game in Hamburg on tuesday.
Iserlohn Roosters vs ERC Ingolstadt 6-2, series 3-3
An 18-5
shot advantage in the first period tells you how much Iserlohn wanted to get
that game 7 in Ingolstadt. The Roosters fired away and got rewarded after only
77 seconds through a Chad Bassen shot that got deflected by a defender into the
own goal. So after the first 20 minutes it looked like an easy cruise for the
Roosters, which found a slight bump on the road when Patrick Hager converted
Ingolstadt’s first powerplay 32 seconds after the first break.
Though this
turned out to be only a bump indeed. 5 minutes later Alexander Foster also
converted a powerplay for Iserlohn and with 30 minutes played things got out of
hand for Ingolstadt. First goalie Timo Pielmeier turned over a puck on the
powerplay, which Chris Connolly put in the net for a shorthanded goal. Then
Dylan Wruck added another powerplay marker for the Roosters and Pielmeier gave
up. He got substituted by the young Marco Eisenhut, who could not have had a
worse start to his game. Right off the face-off Colton Teubert fired a shot
towards the new netminder and it got through into the net from the middle line.
With a
4-goal lead Iserlohn entered the last period and kept it. Both teams could each
add one more goal, but that did not change the fact that we’ll see a game 7 in
Ingolstadt.
