Game 7 or championship party?
The ‘Stadio Odegar’ was sold out for Game 5 of the Serie A finals and the home team fans got rewarded, as Asiago beat Ritten 5:1 and has the chance to clinch the title on Monday.
Game 5: HC Asiago – Ritten/Renon Sport 5:1 (2:0, 2:1,
1:0), series 3-2
Asiago
started with a lot of firepower, whereas Ritten did not seem as determined and
focused. Just over one minute played and David Borrelli scored the leading goal
for the Lions, as he was forgotten by the South Tyrolean’s defence. Asiago
remained the team with the majority of chances and so it was Layne Ulmer to
give his club the 2:0 lead in the 16th minute. Also on this goal the
defence of Ritten did not seem very stable, since once again Ulmer was let
alone in the slot area. Eric Johansson had the chance to score in the last
seconds, but Marozzi and his teammates managed to end the first 20 minutes with
a two-goal-lead.
In the 22nd
minute Luca Felicetti gave the ‘Buam’ some hope, as he was able to beat Marozzi
on the five hole. It did not take long for Asiago to find an answer though and 52
seconds later it was Federico Benetti, assisted by Presti, to score on the
counter attack.
32 seconds
later and the 3500 fans in the sold out ‘Stadio Odegar’ could celebrate again.
Ruben Rampazzo’s shot from the blue line got blocked by Kevin DeVergiglio, who
used his speed to increase the lead for the Lions.
Ritten
tried to come back and had some good chances with Borgatello and Ansoldi, but they
were not able to create a lot of traffic in front of Vincenzo Marozzi. Layne
Ulmer added an empty netter in the last minute of play to make it 5-1 for the ‘stellati’.
On Monday
in Collalbo/Klobenstein, Asiago has the chance to win their 5th ‘scudetto’
in club history. Everything is set for an exciting Game 6, as the defending
champions will not want to see Asiago raise the cup in the ‘Arena Ritten’.
