The fresh Czech President Cup 2015 winner Třinec wakes up from a nightmarish weekend. After a home loss 2-3 against Litvínov on Saturday in the final`s Game One, Oceláři added another mutual defeat 1-3 in Sunday`s Game Two.
Třinec won all home games during previous quarterfinals and semifinals, but the magic of the Werk Arena has been gone now.
The second Litvínov victory in the best-of-seven series started shape up yet in the fourth minute of the play. Interestingly, when Jakub Petružálek opened the score, it was the first and so far the only Verva goal during the final series when playing 5-on-5.
After the opening goal, the home squad was like frozen for the rest of the first period, registering 7 shots only. However, Třinec skated into the second period like if it was absolutely a different team. Oceláři set up a tremendous tempo, meaning 19 shots towards Litvínov goalie Pavel Francouz and culminating to the equalizer goal by Lukáš Galvas to make it 1-1 after the second period.
If chances of both teams were equal after forty minutes, it was not like that any more after eight minutes of the third period: after surviving an early short-handed in the period, Litvínov then used two consecutive power-plays and earned a two goals lead 1-3.
The Třinec Metallurgists then again put Francouz under a huge pressure in a manner to tie the score up again, however they were unable to earn no more than one goal by Jiří Polanský six minutes before the end.
If this was a bad weekend for team Třinec, it outright means a horrible memory for its forward Štefan Růžička. After him sitting on the penalty bench while Litvínov scored its game-winning goal on Saturday to grab the game one, he caused the opening goal by giving a puck to Robin Hanzl of Litvínov who then passed it further to Petružálek into a breakaway in the Game Two.
And what`s more, it was Růžička again, who sat down in the penalty box during Litvínov goals no. two and three. "Štefan is a tough guy, he will recover easily," Třinec coach Václav Varaďa said.
OCELÁŘI TŘINEC vs. VERVA Litvínov 2:3 (0:1, 1:0, 1:2)The actual score of the final series: Třinec v. Litvínov: 0 - 2
