After two games that were dominated by champion Ingolstadt, Adler Mannheim could prove they are still in this series with a 6-2 win in Ingolstadt.
Mannheim needed to come out strong if they wanted to avoid another dominant Ingolstadt performance and they did exactly that. It took Martin Buchwieser 3:37 minutes to convert a breakaway into the 1-0 lead for Mannheim. Even the quick answer by Alexandre Picard’s blue line shot did not bother them today as Kurtis Foster regained the lead 3 minutes later with a shot from the far boards, that nobody expected to go in, but Timo Pielmeier had a shaky moment and let it pass.
The second period started on a similar note. Robert Raymond scored on another long shot and again Pielmeier looked different from the magnificent goalie we have seen all playoffs long. At the 27:12 minute mark Ingolstadt could rebel one last time with a powerplay goal through Michel Periard. The highlight of the game came with Christoph Ullmann’s 4-2 marker for Adler Mannheim. He saw that Picard had lost his stick and moved into the crease where he battled through 4 defenders of Ingolstadt’s team and still had the skills to move the puck around Pielmeier.
Frank Mauer got an insurance goal to start the last period and Nicki Goc got an empty net goal to set the score to 6-2. With this win Mannheim ties the series at 2-2 and will host game 5 on Sunday in Mannheim.
