German Ice Hockey Federation decided not to renew the contract with national team coach
"Pat Cortina is a good coach with great character and always put heart and soul into his work with our national team. Personally, I appreciate him very much, but after 3 years of good cooperation we came to the common conclusion that the national team needs a new staff to prepare our next big goal: the home World Championship in 2017 " said German Ice Hockey Federation President Franz Reindl announcing the contract with headcoach Pat Cortina, expired after the World Championship in Prague, will not be renewed.
A decision about the new coach will be taken by Federation, along with representatives of the German Ice Hockey League (DEL) probably no later than mid-June.
"I really enjoyed the time as national coach of Germany, so the news is sad for me. It was a great honor for me to be able to hold this position. It's something that I'm going to be proud for all my life. A big thank you to all the players and to my staff team and the great staff at the Federation office. I wish all the best for the German ice hockey for the future" said Pat Cortina in a short statement
