DEL team in Wolfsburg renamed
This Monday the launch of a new club website rounded up a new marketing strategy by Grizzlys Wolfsburg, formerly known as the Grizzly Adams Wolfsburg till July 2015. Not only the name but also the club logo was changed.
The 2009 DEB Cup champions and DEL playoff finalists of 2011, Wolfsburg, decided to give the club a new name and look beginning with the 2015-16 DEL season.
Once founded as SEC Wolfsburg in 1964, the hockey club was known as EHC Grizzly Adams Wolfsburg since 1996 and played all their years in Germany's top hockey division from 2007 to 2015 with this name. The new name Grizzlys Wolfsburg is "short and precise" according to club officials.
Not only was the team name changed but also a new logo was reveiled. While the old logo showed an angry grizzly bear holding a hockey stick and the club name on the bottom, the new one shows just the head of an aggressive grizzly bear with the club name on top.
To introduce the new club identity a new team website - www.grizzlys.de - was launched this Monday. This includes a complete new merchandise collection and the sale of season tickets.
It can only be hoped that the transition will be a successful one as Wolfsburg was always last in the attendance rankings by far with a half empty arena during the last years despite qualifying for the playoffs year after year and having one of the best rosters in DEL.
