With Champions Hockey League closing in, Eurohockey is presenting the eight teams from SHL that will participate in this this years competition. Reigning champions are Luleå HF. This is Frölunda HC.
Frölunda faced Luleå HF in the CHL final last year, but lost after a dramatic game. This team from Gothenburg, Sweden is a top team and it wouldn't be surprising if Frölunda goes a long way this year too.
The club has won the Swedish League at three times (1965, 2003, 2005) and was close to get to their 9th final last year. But reigning SHL champions Växjö Lakers was too strong in the semifinal round. For upcoming season, Frölunda have lost some good players, but they have also recruited well. Among these we will find goalkeeper Johan Gustafsson, the big defenseman Oliver Lauridsen and forwards Johan Sundström and Spencer Abbott.
Frölunda is playing in Group N along with JYP Jyväskylä and Sheffield Steelers. The group stage wouldn't be to hard for the Swedish team, but there's always hard battles against the teams from Finland.
Frölunda will play their first game on Thursday August 20th in Frölundaborg against Sheffield Steelers.
