With Champions Hockey League closing in, Eurohockey is presenting the eight teams from SHL that will participate in this this years competition. Reigning champions are Luleå HF. This is HV71.
HV71 have had a turbulent summer, as the head coach Andreas Johansson choose to quit. But he wasn't the only one who decided to leave, Assistant coaches Fredrik Stillman and Fredrik Olausson took the same route. And if that weren't enough, the whole board left their assignments.
It wasn't much that pointed in the right direction for the team from Jönköping, Sweden. Until the sports management found the new head coach Johan Lindbom and at the same time recruited some of the former HV71 players, who have been playing in different leagues. Players such as Oscar Sundh, Martin Törnberg and Simon Önerud. But HV71 also recruited Goalkeeper Fredrik Pettersson-Wentzel, Defenders Niklas Hansson and Ryan O´Byrne and forward Chris Abbott
HV71 have an exciting team this year. With players coming home again, a new coaching staff and some big, tough NHL experienced players, it can be an interesting season in Jönköping. One preseason game have been played and it was success right away.
HV71 is playing in Group C along with Red Bull Salzburg and Sönderjyske Vojens. Last season, HV71 met Salzburg twice and lost both games. So it's going to be two new interesting meetings between the clubs.
First game for HV71 will on Saturday August 22nd in Kinnarps Arena, Jönköping, Sweden against Red Bull Salzburg.
