With tomorrows start of a new season in Champions Hockey League, Eurohockey is presenting the eight teams from SHL that will participate in this this years competition. Reigning champions are Luleå HF. This is Skellefteå AIK.
Skellefteå have won the Swedish League at three times, 1978, 2013 and 2014. The club have the past five seasons either ended up in 1st or 2nd place, so you can say that it is a very successful organisation. But last season Växjö Lakers ended the dominance for Skellefteå, as the young club defeated the giants from Northern Sweden in game six in the final round.
Due to Skellefteå's success, they have lost a great bunch of players to different leagues. But they have also required some good players. For upcoming season, Skellefteå have recruited Jimmie Ericsson, Alexander Urbom, Mattias Ritola and Terry Broadhurst. One key-player that's going to be really important for the team is Jimmy Ericsson, who's come home from KHL.
In CHL, Skellefteå will play in Group D along with Bili Tygri Liberec and HK Nitra. Last year, Skellefteå were knocked out in the semifinal round by reigning champions Luleå HF, after two hard rival games.
Skellefteå's first game will be Friday August 21st against HK NItra.
