Marcus Högberg saved four penalty shots against SC Bern and Linköping won with 3-2 infront of 2247 spectators in SAAB Arena.
The weather outside was sunny and warm with a clearblue sky when SC Bern visited Linköping HC in SAAB Arena. This was Linköpings first game in CHL this season and SC Bern had one loss against IFK Helsinki a few days back with 3 to 1.
After a scoreless first period Linköping took the lead with 2-0 after goal by Nichlas Hardt and Andrew Gordon. SC Bern managed to get back in the game and reduce before the period ended through Cory Conacher.
In the third SC Bern got the chance to play 5 against 3. They didn't get their powerplay to work at the beginning and Linköping had no trouble to send the puck deep down in SC Bern zone. But just when Linköping got back one off their players, SC Bern scored (Eric Blum) and the game was tied at 2-2. Both team failed to get three points in this game and overtime was a fact.
4 against 4 and a lot of ice to skate on. It was Linköping that was in the drivingseat in the overtime and had the best chances, they even got the chance to play 4 against 3 but without success. So the winner had to be decided on penalty shootout. Linköpings keeper Marcus Högberg was the hero after saving four penalty shots and Linköping took two importent points in CHL Group A.
"It feels a bit sad. We create enough chances in the second period to win this game", said Linköping's Niklas Persson to SVT.
