Former Frölunda HC player Christian Bäckman have decided to retire. After he didn't get a new contract by the club, Christian now put the skates away. -"I quit with mixed feelings" Christian said.
Christian Bäckman have been of the most important players in Frölunda HC, but the last couple of years haven't been so successful. Therefore, Frölunda decided not to re-assign the former NHL star.
In an interview with Alingsås Magazine, Bäckman says: -"This is something that I've been thinking of for a longer time. It's about various parts as how I performed on the ice, but also how my body have felt lately."
Christian started his career in Frölunda 1996 and have represented the club in a total of 546 games (including J20). In SHL Christian played 480 games and recorded a total of 154 points. Christian have also represented St. Louis Blues, New York Rangers and Columbus Blue Jackets in NHL, where he played a total of 301 games with 80 points as result. Now the 35-year old defenseman decides to retire and he's certainly a prospect for getting his jersey in Scandinaviums roof.
-"Off course it feels hard to leave. For a very long time, hockey has been everything for me, but I'm very proud at the same time of everything that I've been honored to be a part of. It feels strange not knowing what to do in the fall," Christian said.
