The start of 2015/16 SHL season is closing in and for upcoming season, there will be 14 teams competing for the trophy Le Mat. Reigning champions are Växjö Lakers. For the next 14 days, Eurohockey is presenting one team each day. In Part 3. we meet Frölunda HC.
Last years semifinalists Frölunda HC has an exciting team this year. The past two seasons, Frölunda have been a reliable top team in SHL and past year they ended up in second place.
Though they're a young team, Frölunda have a lot of experience and for 2015/16 they have recruited some exciting players. Johan Sundström, Patrik Carlsson, Sebastian Stålberg, Henrik Tömmernes, Oliver Lauridsen, Spencer Abbott and Johan Gustafsson are all new.
Former players Johan Sundström, Patrik Carlsson, Sebastian Stålberg, Henrik Tömmernes have return home to Frölunda and Scandinavium to help the pride of Gothenburg get their fourth trophy. Last season, Frölunda lost the CHL final against Luleå HF after a thriller, so count on the team to be filled with revenge for upcoming season.
Frölunda is a fast skating team, with great individual skills and a heavy defense. It's going to an exciting season in Gothenburg and the fans will certainly see some good hockey. The expectations are always high and 2015/16 will not be any different.
-"We have a fantastic atmosphere and obviously no one wants to come in second place. It's great playing in SHL and it is as good as it was before I left for Minnesota Wild. It's an equal league, where the teams are as good as in any other league," Johan Gustafsson said to SHL.se.
