The start of 2015/16 SHL season is closing in and for upcoming season, there will be 14 teams competing for the trophy Le Mat. Reigning champions are Växjö Lakers. For the next 14 days, Eurohockey is presenting one team each day. In Part 8. we meet Djurgårdens IF
Djurgårdens IF may be one of the oldest and most winning team in the Swedish history of hockey. With 16
championships won in 19 finals, Djurgården is certainly a successful team. Djurgården, lead by Hans Särkijärvi managed to
get back in SHL 2014/15 after they've been relegated in 2012.
Past season, the team from Stockholm managed to stay in SHL and that thanks to their defensive play. Djurgården made it hard for any team to get close to the net and though they stayed in 9th place, this was a successful recipe.
For upcoming season, Djurgården have lost Michael Holmqvist, Marcus Nordlund, Sebastian Lauritzen, Steve Saviano, Mikael Samuelsson, Joakim Eriksson, Tony Zabel, Marcus Nilson, Damien Fleury, Johan Mattsson, Alexander Deilert. But have signed following players: Daniel Brodin, Tomi Sallinen, Linus Hultström, Matt Anderson, Robin Press, Patrick Thoresen.
-"It's a dream come true for me and my family. Ever since I played in Djurgården eight years ago, we love stockholm," Patrick Thoresen said in an interview.
Djurgårdens opening game will be against Linköping HC on September 16 in SAAB Arena, Linköping, Sweden
