The start of 2015/16 SHL season is closing in and for upcoming season, there will be 14 teams competing for the trophy Le Mat. Reigning champions are Växjö Lakers. For the next 14 days, Eurohockey is presenting one team each day. In Part 10. we meet MODO Hockey.
MODO Hockey is coming from a rough past season as they barely escaped a demotion. They had a great team with a lot of good individual skills, but didn't managed to get it together. For upcoming season, MODO have put together an interesting team.
GM Per Svartvadet have managed to sign following players: Ludvig Nilsson, Jonatan Bjurö, Larry Huras (coach), Byron Ritchie, Shaun Heshka, Kyle Wilson, Noah Welch, Bill Thomas, Ryan Whitney, Bobby Butler, Maxim Lapierre.
MODO lost some good players to and these are: Simon Önerud, Joonas Lehtivouri, Adrian Kempe, Samuel Påhlsson, Joonas Nättinen, Janos Hari, Linus Ullmark, Marcel Hossa, Travis Roche, Kyle Flanagan, Jonas Ahnelöv, Radek Smolenak.
The team from Örnsköldsvik, Sweden made a spectacular signing when Pittsburgh Penguins' Maxime Lapierre signed with the club. Something that Per Svartvadet is thrilled about: -"We can match him against every other top centers in the league and knowing that they won't be having fun to meet him on the ice," Svartvadet said.
Other significant players that MODO has recruited is Kyle wilson, Noah Welch, Ryan Whitney and Bobby Butler and with them, MODO is certainly a more physical, skilled and experienced team. Though they haven't had a too great preseason, MODO will be an interesting team to watch during the season.
Opening game for MODO will be against Örebro Hockey on September 17th in Berhn Arena, Örebro Sweden.
