Zug blanks Tigers, Flyers climb the stands and Bern fall short in revenge against Lions.
EV Zug - SC Langnau Tigers 5:0
Zug decided the game early against last seasons National League B winner
Langnau. The first period proved to be too much as Zug put up 4
unanswered goals in the first period. Jarkko Immonen and Dominic Lammer
scored twice last night, with Lammer's goal coming in the second leg.
Langnau couldn't hold up with the speed or abilities of a fired up Zug
squad who find themselves in the second spot after 7 rounds.
SC Bern - ZSC Lions 1:2
After a tight loss to local rival Kloten Flyers the Lions were looking
for a way to get back on the winning road. But Bern on the other hand
looked for revenge after loosing the season opener to Zurich a few weeks
back. Pius Suter opened the score for the Lions when he took a nice
pass along side the boards and faced Bührer to beat him with a
wrist-shot in the left upper corner. The second period started with a
one-man advantage for Bern, the power play had almost run down when
Justin Krueger was fed with a pass by Simon Moser and beat back-up
goalie Urban Leimbacher above his left shoulder to even the score. A
Lions attack in the 37th minute gave Patrick Bärtschi a chance to score
the game winner but Bührer denied him that goal, the puck was deflected
and Auston Matthews stood just outside of the crease to give the puck
the little push over the line. Bern find themselves in the 8th spot
while the Lions were able to hold the 3rd place.
Kloten Flyers - HC Davos 5:1
The general assembly of the Kloten Flyers had taken place just hours
before the game. Philip Gaydoul, the ex-owner of the Flyers had covered
last season's deficit of of over 7 million CHF for a last time, leaving
the balance sheet with a "profit" of half a million CHF according to
"NZZ am Sonntag". The new owners had flown over from North America to
get an image of the Club and it's surroundings. It seemed to have
motivated the team, winning against the Lions in the derby. Now Davos
was visiting, the fast pacing team of Arno del Curto. Top scorer Marcus
Paulsson opened the score with a break-away 11 minutes into the game.
Kloten didn't fold as they had in the previous games but instead came
out with blazing guns in the second. Chad Kolarik with a hat-trick and
Tommi Santala who had spent the whole week off sick with two goals
sealed the win for the Flyers in the second period. At the beginning of
the third period Leonardo Genoni was replaced by Gill Senn, he didn't
allow any goals but Davos wasn't able to score a single goal either.
This puts the Flyers in the top 8 for the first time this season while
Davos is still struggling to find a way out of the injury-prone start.
Meanwhile the new owners seemed to have arrived in time to see a team
that finally reflects what they had shown in the pre-season.
