Sweden won Karjala Cup and made history
Team Sweden won Karjala Cup after have defeated Finland 3-2 in front of 11 295 in the attendance. -"I'm always satisfied when we win," Viktor Fasth said afterwards.
As Czech Republic won in shootout, 4-3, against Russia, Sweden had the win in their own hands. The game between the two rivals became just as tight as it should be. Joel Lundqvist gave Sweden the lead 13:46 in to the first period.
In the second act Sweden scored another one by Jimmie Ericsson, but Finland reduced quickly. Sami Lepistö presented himself in powerplay and scored the reducing goal. Finland pressured Sweden most of the game, but Viktor Fast made a couple of great saves.
The teams scored a goal each in the third period and the game ended 3-2 to Sweden. -"I'm really thrilled for the win, but I think that we spent too much time in our defensive zone today. Besides that, it felt pretty safe," Sweden Manager Pär Mårts said.
It was Sweden's' second straight win in the tournament and therefore they became historical. It's the first time since the tournament started 1922 that a team wins two years in a row.
