Bienne is now placed last, while Langnau can finally breathe a bit
It's been a very busy week in Switzerland's National League A, with a lot of games as well as surprises. Let's see them in detail.
Zürich is becoming more and more the best team of the league, with a 2-0 victory on Friday against Lausanne as well as a 1-4 win at the Valascia against Ambrì-Piotta the following evening. The latter game was even more ironic to the eyes of many fans of the Leventinesi, as one of its best players, 24-year old Inti Pestoni, has just signed for the Lions and will join them the following season: also, ZSC knocked Ambrì out of the Swiss Cup just five days ago winning 5-2. Even Thibaut Monnet, one of the finest players of the club as well, is considering to leave them as soon as his contract will expire. Ambrì was also beaten 7-4 by Kloten on Sunday. The other Ticino club, Lugano, just played one game this week, losing 1-2 against EV Zug but showing strong improvements since the arrival of Doug Shedden on its bench.
Davos, having won 4-3 in the overtime against Bern, is now fourth, while Fribourg defeated Kloten 5-2 and is now third. Biel, the last club in the league table, lost 5-4 at the penalty shootout against Fribourg on Sunday, while Langnau earned a bunch of vital table points winning both against Bern and Servette at the shootout and during overtime, respectively. Bern remains mid-placed, even with two straight losses, but five points shorter of its direct competitor Servette.
The semi-finals for the Swiss Cup have been announced as well, with ZSC Lions playing SC Bern and Kloten facing Lausanne on January 5th and 6th.
