Liberec buries Karlovy Vary under a rain of goals, while Olomouc is now placed third
This week's Extraliga action was pretty interesting, with Liberec widening its advantage after two convincing wins: the first one came last Friday against Vítkovice Steel, while the second one was a landslide victory over Energie Karlovy Vary with 7 goals against just one scored by the unfortunate team from former Karlsbad. A 4-2 defeat against Zlín halted Plzen's bid to the top, despite a subsequent win against Chomutov. Skoda has now, thus, to face a greater menace: Olomouc, which is now only one point shorter (46 against the 47 of the Pilseners) on the classification table thanks to two victories in a row, the first against Litvínov and the second against Trinec.
Under Olomouc comes Sparta Praha, which lost against Chomutov on Friday but won today against Mláda Boleslav: the latter are now paired to the capital city team with 45 points each, thus sharing the fourth place. Mountfield, with 44 points, and Chomutov, with 43, come shortly thereafter, while the next best-placed team, Kometa Brno, has "just" 36 points.
A fundamental win finally came for VERVA Litvínov as well, which defeated today Vítkovice and is now just one point shorter than Energie in the table. A new beginning for the former champions, which recently had to face the loss of their assistant coach and a serious rebuilding of their whole staff? Let's hope that for them!
