Bobrovsky perfect when Russia beat Latvia
Today is Victory Day in Russia. The people remember the capitulation of Nazi Germany to the Soviet Union at the end of Second World War. It was also a victorious day for the national hockey team that beat Latvia 4-0.
Russian goalie Sergei Bobrovsky made 27 saves in Russia's expected win against Latvia. Artemy Panarin of Chicago Blackhawks was scoreless in the first two games but noted four points today. He opened and closed the scoring and got assists at Russia's second and third goal.
The first goal was scored in the opening of the second period with a quick one-timer from the left wing. Evgeny Dadonov's 2-0 goal seven minutes later was a beauty. Panarin won the puck behind the net and passed to Vadim Shipachyov who immediately sent it to Dadonov who scored in the open net behind Latvian goalie Elvis Merzlikins.
At 7:02 of the third period the same line scored again. And again it was a beautiful combination. Shipachyov was the last man on the puck just outside of the crease. Panarin added 4-0 with two and a half minute to go with the only powerplay goal of the game.
Latvia's next game is on Wednesday against Switzerland. Russia have two days off before the game against Denmark.
