Tre Kronor won a heated game after the shootout
After Denmark's unexpected victory against the Czechs, Switzerland needed at least four point to be sure of going to the quarterfinals. Still, the two remaining games were quite hard, being against Sweden and the very same Czech Republic: but the Eisgenossen were highly motivated and prepared to fight.
Such battler attitude was underlined by a good first period when, after one penalty per side, Sven Andrighetto scored the first goal assisted by Noah Schneeberger. But four penalties inflicted to Switzerland at the beginning of the second period finally provoked Sweden's comeback, despite a very good Swiss boxplay: Johan Sundstrom, assisted by Linus Omark and Magnus Nygren, scored the equalizer. The "Nati" even pulled goalie Reto Berra out from the ice for the final two seconds of the period, a desperate but fruitless attempt to score again.
Denis Hollenstein, assisted by Eric Blum and Andres Ambühl, finally managed to sign a 2-1 goal on powerplay, but Gustav Nyquist managed to give Sweden yet another equalizer, which came less than ten minutes before the end of regulation time. An intense overtime period was dominated by Sweden, but Switzerland managed to desperately resist, forcing things to the shootout. There, a final goal by Andre Burakovsky closed the game, after many missed attempts on both sides. Now Switzerland needs a victory against the Czech, or a miraculous Kazakh win on Denmark.
