HK Beograd joins MOL Liga
After Dunarea Galati, another team enriches the multi-national league
After the exit of Slovak team HC Nove Zamky, champion in 2013-2014 and silver medalist in the following year, the MOL-Liga lasted a Hungarian-Romanian binomial only in the last season. After having voted in favor of the admission of Romanian champion Dunarea Galati, rejected last year, the league members have voted to add also HK Beograd, a project strongly backed by the Serbian federation to develope the hockey at top level in the country. The team is actually a "super-club" created by the Federation joining the best players of two strongest (and richest) teams in the country: eternal champion Partizan Beograd and arch-rival Crvena Zvezda (Red Star). In the final vote eight members voted for the addition, two were against and one abstained.
"As everyone knows Partizan and Crvena Zvezda are huge rivals in every way, but this project is unanimously supported wholeheartedly - said Federation President (and Partizan player) Marko Milovanovic in an interview at Hungarian site Jegkorongblog.hu - The important is that the players have the opportunity to play in a competitive framework, opportunity that have not had in the last years after closure after the extinction of Pannonia League and Slohokej. On the other hand, creating a new club, we believe we help to create unity and a positive atmosphere, attracting new supporters. Everyone who loves hockey is welcome to the arena!" Milovanovic also stresses the solid basis of the project: "We created a multi-annual project, so we and every fans in MOL-Liga can expect a long-term Serbian team in the league."
The MOL-Liga, entering in its nineth season, will count on 11 clubs, a record in the history of competition. Follow all the MOL-Liga games with game-by-game stats on eurohockey.com!
