USA and Czech Republic to the Hlinka Memorial final
Both semifinals were decided in overtime. Sweden and Russia will play for the bronze.
The prestigious annual U18 tournament Ivan Hlinka Memorial, played in Czech Republic and Slovakia, will be won by the Czechs or Team USA.
The Americans beat Russia in the first semifinal. Michael Pastujov picked up the puck close to the Russian goalie Dmitry Raiko and put the winner home at 5:15 of the overtime. Russia was in the lead three times but in the end USA was the better side.
Czech Republic also needed an extra period to beat Sweden in Ice Bors arena in Breclav. Jakub Galvas got the puck between the circles from Filip Zadina, who was alone behind the Swedish net. Galvas made no mistake and scored the winner at 9:38 of the extra time.
Canada beat Finland 4-3 in the 5th place game (recap here) and Slovakia beat Switzerland 6-3 to avoid the last place.
The final and the bronze medal game will be played tomorrow.
