Sheffield Steelers secure CHL win
An historic night in Sheffield as Steelers secure their CHL win.
For the rest of Europe it may not
seem a big deal; but for a nation which is striving to become one of the best,
especially in Sheffield, the win for Sheffield Steelers
over Austrian champions Red Bull Salzburg was tremendous.
The visitors took a 1-0 advantage at 6’.55
when John Hughes scoring the opening goal of the night on the
powerplay.
But Sheffield
bounced back with Jesse Schultz opening the scoring after collecting a pin
point pass in front of goal.
But only 90 seconds later Manuel Latusa collected a pass
through the slot from Flood to score past Mustukovs. The scores were tied the four
minutes into the second period as good work down low by Mathieu Roy enabled
Schultz to easily beat the back up netminder.
Robert Dowd took the Steelers into previously uncharted
territory by collecting his own rebound to put the home side in front.
Into the third and Sheffield did
not intend to let up and young Luke Ferrara took a pass from Markus Nillson,
shorthanded, to put Steelers two ahead.
Perhaps the best was saved to the last when Jesse Schultz
robbed a Red Bull defender on his own blue line and skated the length of the
ice to fire past Gracnar and secure his hat trick.
