Reigning since 2008, the President was confirmed for four years more given the progress of sport in the country
The General Assembly of Kazakhstan Ice Hockey Federation, recognizing the progress icehockey made in the country, has re-elected President Askar Mamin for four years more, along with CEO of Federation Yuriy Zverev and the current members of the Executive Committee.
"Thanks to the full support of the President Nursultan Nazarbaev, ice hockey in our country is developing dynamically, becoming a mass sport. Since the independence, the development of sport in Kazakhstan has reached high results.Today, our country is among the 30 best sports countries in the world." said Mamin in his speech at the Assembly. "In the last four years the Federation had significantly modernized the hockey infrastructures around the country, building new arenas, indoor and outdoor rinks, more than doubling the number of teenagers involved in hockey. For the first time we hosted at the Ice Palace of Astana the Olympic women's qualifying tournament. Representatives of the International Ice Hockey Federation noted the high level and quality of the tournament"
Mamin, 51, leads the Kazakhstan Federation since 2008. He previously served as Mayor ofAstana (2006-2008), Minister of Transport and Communication (2005-2006) and President of the the national railway company of Kazakhstan, until September 2016, when was named First Deputy Prime Minister of Kazakhstan.
