The small city of Collalbo, near Bolzano, will host the last act of 20th Continental Cup
The Continental Cup Superfinals are back in Italy for the 20th anniversary edition of the trophy: after the edition of 2003, co-hosted by Milan and Swiss Lugano, the IIHF assigned to the small town of Collalbo, about 15 km from Bolzano, the right to host the last act of the competition from 13 to 15 January 2017. The 2000-places Ritten Arena, home of Italian current champion SV Renon/Ritten, hosted the Semifinals Group last November and previously in 2014, with home side qualified for the final tournament for the first time, along with Beybarys Atyrau (KAZ), Nottingham Panthers (GBR) and Odense Bulldogs (DEN)
Also Nottingham and Odense applied for the hosting, but the Nottingham Motorpoint Arena, probably the best venue among the three candidates, won't be avaiable for the weekend selected by IIHF, as already occupied by the British Synchronized Skating Championships.
"Of course we are very happy to host the Super Finals in Renon. In the next few days we will also try to strengthen the team for this capital opportunity, but I already can confirm defender Brad Cole defender will return for the Finals" comments the President of the Club Thomas Rottensteiner.
