Färjestad takes a big step towards the title

13 Apr 2011 | Fredrik Pålsson

Despite being outplayed for most of the game Färjestad managed to beat Skellefteå 2-1 after overtime on away ice.

Skellefteå played their best final so far. But it didn't help much as they only managed to beat Christoffer Nihlstorp once. Nihlstorp who has been backup for most of the season is now the first choice for Färjestad and made over 40 saves in this key win for Färjestad who now can win the title at home on Thursday,

After 2 periods the score was still 0-0 but when Joakim Lindström finally broke the ice with 1-0 early in the third it felt like Skellefteå would win this game, but a one goal lead is fragile. And only three minutes later the score was tied again after a shot from the blue line by Jonas Brodin. The home fans did everything to lift Skellefteå to a game winning goal in the third but the black and yellow team failed to score again even if they had 44 shots on goal. The game ended with a 1-1 tie and went to overtime.

In the overtime it only took 35 seconds, Dick Axelsson shot the first shot of the overtime and on the rebound Mikael Johansson scored the game winner shooting the puck on volley over Hadelöv in Skellefteå's goal.
