Slovakia - Russia and USA - Slovenia will open the Olympic men's tournament on Valentine's day
With 137 days until the opening ceremony of 2018 Olympics Winter Games in PyeongChang, South Korea, the schedule for hockey tournaments was unveiled today.
The Women’s tournament will be opened on February 10th, with Japan and Sweden on the ice of Kwandong Hockey Centre, where almost all the women’s games, except the finals, will be played. Korea, qualified as host but competing in Division I Group B at World Championship, will debut on the same day at night against Switzerland. On February 15th the most awaited game, champion Canada vs arch-rivals USA, possibly an anticipation of the final for the gold, as happened in 4 out of 5 editions of Olympic tournament, scheduled on February, 22th
The men's tournament kick-off will be on Valentine's Day with Slovakia - Russia and USA - Slovenia at main arena, the 10.000 capacity Guangneung Hockey Centre that will host all the games of men's tournament, except 5 of preliminary round and two quarter finals, held at Kwandong Hockey Centre.
The following day, February 15th, will mark the historic debut of Korea at Olympic Games: the home team will face one of hockey giants, Czech Republic. In the same day also defending Olympic champion Canada and current World champion Sweden will begin their journey for the medals against Switzerland and Norway respectively. The gold medal game will be played, as happened in Sochi 2014, in the closing day of the Games
