HIFK beat Blues 4-0 in the SM-Liiga final to win the Championship for the first time in 13 years. The greatest player of the night, and all the season, was
Ville Peltonen. Tonight he scored three of the HIFK goals.
HIFK play was intensive from the first second and they would take the lead at 6:04 when Turo Järvinen beat Iiro Tarkki. Peltonen scored 2-0 at 15 minutes and 3-0 on a power-play in the second period. Blues got closer. Petri Lammassaari scored 3-1 with five minutes remaining of the second period and Camilo Miettinen made it 2-3 ten minutes before the end of the game.
When Blues had pulled Tarkki, Ville Peltonen scored his third goal of the game 20 seconds before the buzzer.
"Towards the end of the season, we simply played on a level that no one could beat us", says Peltonen to Hufvudstadsbladet after the game.
"During our first practise on skates and with Ville on the ice, I knew we had a real leader of the gang, "says Head Coach
Kari Jalonen.
