Slovakia came back from 0-4 to 3-4 in the third period against Germany but the tier would not come.
With 1:33 remaining of the game Slovakia pulled the goalie Jaroslav Halak and put six forwards(!) on the ice. Germany survived the massive attack and won 4-3.
After a first period with no goal, Germany took a 3-0 lead in the second. Marcel Müller scored 1-0. After a sloppy Marcel Hossa move in the neutral zone Germany got a 3-on-2 counter attack and John Tripp scored with a nice shot. Frank Hördler made is 3-0 on a beautiful pass from Christoph Ullmann.
4-0 came at 44:37 when the Slovak players looked at the puck and forgot the German players in front if the net. Felix Schutz got the goal.
The German "0" in the tournament lasted for 105:26 but then finally their defence was beaten. Ladislav Nagy scored 4-1 on a break-away.
Slovakia got a power-play at 47:35 and 14 seconds later they scored. Nagy took a shot and Jozef Stumpel picked up the rebound and scored with his wooden stick. Slovakia got new hope.
At 52:43 when Germany just had returned to full strength after another penalty Slovakia scored its third goal. Pavol Demitra got a wide open net after Marian Hossa’s shot.
With two and a half minute remaining of the game Demitra had another great opportunity to score but failed this time and Germany got its second win of the championship.
