Slovan Bratislava without a league?
Pro-Hokej Board of Directors decided not to recommend the League Council to grant license for Slovan Bratislava to play in Slovakia Extraliga for the 2019/2020 season.
The summer for Slovan Bratislava seems to be full of problems: first the abandonment of the KHL, then a dispute with the municipality for the payment of the rent of the Arena and now the non certainty of being able to play in the next Extraliga, after the Pro-Hockey's Board of Directors, the body that manages Slovak Extraliga, recommended not to grant Slovan a license.
According to Pro-Hockey, Slovan was supposed to claim the settlement of all overdue liabilities to players and coaches as of 1 July. "We investigated whether all the clubs that played Tipsport League last year submitted an affidavit stating that they had settled all their obligations. Everything is fine with them, except Slovan" said Juraj Koval, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Pro-Hokej. According to Pro-Hokej Vice President Juraj Široký jr., Slovan owes around 60 million euros to players.
Slovan management said last Monday in a press conference that after repaying more than a million of the city's debt for renting the hall, they are also working to settle their obligations towards the players, which is the main condition for licensing the upcoming Extraliga. The club management would like to pay the amount due to the hockey
players, or agree with them on payment schedules by 1 August, when the
new Executive Committee of the Federation should decide to grant the
Extraliga licenses.
