Finland remains undefeated at the World Juniors after a 4-1 win.
Finland scored three goals on the power-play when Switzerland was defeated 4-1 in Rogers Place. This was the second game of the tournament for both teams. Finland had beaten Germany 5-3 and Switzerland lost 1-0 to Slovakia on Friday.
Finland was of course huge favorite in this game and also outshot Switzerland 43-14 but it was the Swiss team that took an early lead at 03:44. On the first powerplay advantage of the game Attilio Biasca was left all alone in the left circle and could beat Roope Taponen in the Finnish net. It took Finland only 36 seconds to tie it, Anton Lundell scored on a 3-on-2 attack assisted by Kasper Simontaival.
The game was tied for another 20 minutes before Juuso Pärssinen scored the first Finnish powerplay goal of the day. He advanced with the puck from the own blue line and just skated past the entire Swiss team before he beat Thibault Fatton in the net.
The score was 2-1 for a long time but the Finnish lead felt secure anyway and towards the end Finland added powerplay goals from the sticks of Aku Räty and Kasper Simontaival.
"It was a close game. We got the goals we needed", said the Finnish captain Anton Lundell to SVT.
For Finland remains games against Slovakia and Canada. Switzerland will need to improve for the games against Canada and Germany to have a chance to make it to he quarter finals.
