Czechs bounce back to beat Russia
Lukas Parik earned a shutout against Russia when Czech Republic recovered from the big loss to Sweden and Group B is still wide open.
Czech Republic needed a win over Russia to remain in the fight for the top spots of Group B and they got it. Russia played well in the scoreless first period but couldn't beat Parik. The Czech's played smart throughout the game and managed to keep the Russia tempo at a low pace. They also got several counterattacks and both goals came on such occasions.
Filip Koffer scored 1-0 at 36:38 on a one-timer from between the circles on a pass from Jakub Rychlovsky. Martin Lang made it 2-0 on a breakaway after he blocked a shot. Russia got three opportunites to play on the powerplay in the third period but couldn't get it to work very well.
The Czech goalie Lukas Parik made 30 saves for the shutout while Yaroslav Askarov in the Russian net saved 27 out of 29 shots.
Both teams still have to play Austria and both have a harder game remaining. Czech Republic against USA and Russia against Sweden.
