The Americans proved that Canada could be beaten at the World U-20 Championship in Edmonton.
Alex Turcotte and Trevor Zegras scored the goals and Spencer Knight made 34 saves when USA beat Canada in the final of the World Juniors at Rogers Place in Edmonton, Alberta.
Canada opened the game well but didn't create many dangerous scoring chances. USA managed to keep the puck in the Canadian zone for long sequences in the second half of the first period. Eventually Drew Helleson threw in a shot from the right wing and Alex Turcotte deflected it for 1-0 with his third goal of the tournament.
Just 32 seconds into the second period Trevor Zegras was all alone with Devon Levi after a lucky bounce and scored 2-0 with a quick move.
In the third period Canada outshot USA 15-1 and pulled Devon Levi from the net at 58:22 but failed to beat Knight.Canada | 0-2 | USA |
